Frankfort is not an easy place to grow a tree, and not an easy place to take one down either. Kentucky’s capital sits in a deep bend of the Kentucky River, so a lot of the city’s trees grow on steep hillsides, on low ground by the river, or tight against old homes and stone walls. Central KY Tree Service has been taking care of trees across Central Kentucky since 2003, and we bring the same crew and the same equipment to Frankfort and the rest of Franklin County. Estimates are free and on site. Call Tony Lafoe and the crew at 859-333-7246.
We handle the full range of residential and commercial tree work in Frankfort:
Every job includes cleanup. We chip the brush and haul the wood and debris away, so you are not left with a pile in the yard.
The way Frankfort is laid out shapes almost every tree job in town. The downtown historic district and South Frankfort sit on the flat ground inside the river bend. Much of the rest of the city climbs the hillsides around it. Bellepoint sits on low ground along the river.
That creates two kinds of problem trees. On the hillsides, trees often lean out over the slope toward the light, and their weight ends up on the downhill side, which is frequently the side your house is on. Taking one of those down means controlling where every piece lands, not just where the trunk falls. On low ground near the river, trees sit in soil that stays wet for long stretches, and waterlogged roots hold less well in high wind.
Older neighborhoods add a third challenge: mature trees planted decades ago that have grown into power lines, over roofs, and right up against foundations and walls. Those jobs are about careful sectional removal and pruning, and that is where an experienced crew earns its money.
Frankfort knows what the Kentucky River can do. In April 2025 the river crested at 48.27 feet at the Frankfort lock, the second highest crest on record there, behind only December 1978, according to the National Weather Service.
Floodwater does not always knock a tree down right away. Standing water and saturated soil can weaken roots, and a tree that looked fine the week after a flood can fail in the next windstorm. If a tree on your property sat in floodwater, or the ground around it heaved or cracked, have it looked at before it becomes an emergency.
When a tree does come down on a house, car or driveway, call us at 859-333-7246 and see our emergency tree service page for what to do while you wait. If a tree is touching a power line, stay away from it and call your electric utility first, such as Frankfort Plant Board.
Emerald ash borer has killed ash trees across Central Kentucky, and Franklin County’s ash trees face the same threat. An infested ash dries out and turns brittle as it dies, which makes it more dangerous and harder to take down safely the longer it stands. Early warning signs include thinning at the top of the canopy, D-shaped exit holes in the bark, and woodpecker damage. If you have an ash tree near your house, our emerald ash borer page explains the treat-or-remove decision.

We serve Frankfort and Franklin County. Franklin County is the county Frankfort sits in. It is not the same place as the city of Franklin, KY, which is in Simpson County in south central Kentucky.
It depends on the size of the tree, how close it is to structures or power lines, how easy it is to reach, and whether you want the stump ground. Every estimate is free and done on site, so you get a price for your tree rather than an average. Request a quote or call 859-333-7246.
Not automatically. Many trees survive flooding. But saturated roots can lose their grip, so a flooded tree near a house deserves an inspection, especially if it has started to lean or the soil around its base has lifted.
Call your electric utility first and keep everyone away from the tree and the line. Once the utility has made the line safe, we can take care of the rest of the tree.
We chip the brush and haul the debris away as part of the job.
Yes. We can grind the stump as part of a removal or as a separate job. See our stump grinding page.
